3 Months Old

I know I say this every month but I can't believe it's been 3 months since my baby boy was finally welcomed to this world. I have to say that my whole world has been turned upside down and upside down for the better. I have learned the true meaning of love and the love I have for Adam and Lincoln has grown unbelievable amounts.

Lincoln has changed so much over the last month! It honestly surprises and amazes me how much he has changed. He is so much fun, I love spending every second possible with him and it still breaks my heart every time I have to go to work. I miss my little booger so much!

I think the best part of month three is...dare I say it...his colic is gone! GONE are the screaming fits that last hours, gone are the evenings where I am just praying he goes to sleep because there is nothing I can do to calm him, and GONE are my feelings of inadequacy when it comes to comforting my child. He is all smiles in the evenings which makes it that much harder to go to work, but at least thats only 3 evenings out of the week.

This month Lincoln has done A LOT! HE celebrated his first Christmas and New Years and has truly captured the hearts of everyone around him. He is a true blessing from God that I thank everyday for! I am one blessed Mama!

Here are some of the highlights from this month...

  • He still isn't much of a pacifier kid
  • He has grown to HATE his carseat with everything he has. HE screams almost everytime we put him in it. (I had to move the straps up a spot this month too!)
  • He isn't in love with his showers anymore, he more just tolerates them, I guess I will try to use the little tub more.
  • He still absolutely HATES to have anything put over his head. He screams bloody murder and acts as though I've hurt him when I put a onesie over his head!
  • He smiles all the time. Usually all you have to do is look at him and he will smile at you.
  • In the last few days he almost giggles. It's music to our ears
  • He holds his head up all on his own. Still occasionally wobbly but for the most part he does awesome with it.
  • I can almost hold him on my hip!
  • He is getting better and better with tummy time, my cousin gave me this new play mat that has a pillow to prop him up with and he enjoys tummy time much more with that.
  • He has growing extremely active, kicking and whaling his arms everywhere!
  • he has started to "talk" a bit more, he will be laying down and just "talking" away!
  • He will hold a rattle when I put it in his hands
  • He will sometimes bat intentionally at the toys on his play yard
  • He follows and moves his head to the sound of mine or Adam's voice
  • He will sometimes bear weight on his legs when we hold him upright
  • He keeps his head level when you have him sitting or in the bumbo
  • He enjoys the bumbo for short periods of time
  • He also just last week starting sleeping in his crib every night
  • He had his first sleepover away from his house, at his mimi and papa's while I went to work (adam was out of town)
  • He moves up to 6 month clothing
  • I had to move up to size 3 on his pocket diapers and am thinking I'm going to have to go up a snap on his prefold/cover diapers
Over all this month has been such a blessing. I feel so much love for Lincoln it brings me to tears. He is such a special blessing to Adam and I and we are so thankful God chose us to be his parents!

I don't have stats on him since he didn't have a regular doctors visit. I did take him just yesterday to the doctor strictly for shots, but they didn't weight him or anything. I think he's about 13.5 - 14 lbs and somewhere around 25 to 26 inches long. He's so big!

So his monthly photoshoot was a bit of a challenge, first off I worked 3 days in a row before his "birthday" and I forgot to go out and get my prop to have the date on, so Sunday I was running around like a crazy person trying to find something and just couldn't. So I used the indoor snowball fight that my mom got Lincoln for Christmas. Also it was much harder to get him to sit still and NOT move so much that he would tear the sticker off his shirt...month 4 should be interesting!!!

so here it goes

Crib Talk

Lincoln spent his first night (with me home) in his crib last night. It was better than I had anticipated. I can honestly say that I haven't been and am still not emotionally ready for him to be in another room, but this is all a part of parenting right?

Originally I had hoped to have Lincoln in his room by the time I went back to work. However as I've blogged about earlier Lincoln hasn't always been the best sleeper, and honestly if he wasn't going to be sleeping through the night I found NO reason to put him in his room since I'd have to physically get out of bed and walk down the hallway to feed him. It was much easier just picking him up from right next to me.

Also at about 6 weeks old Adam was changing him and he spit up to the point where he started choking and couldn't catch his breath. We had to physically sit him up for him to be able to breath again.  It scared Adam and I both enough to continue to have him sleep in the Fisher Price Rock N Play since it sits at a 45ish degree angle.

However once I went back to work Lincoln started sleeping anywhere from 6-8 hours at a time so I knew the time was coming for him to move to his crib. I had 5 days off in a row this week so I decided this would be the time to transition him since I wasn't sure how things would go for me.

However Adam had other plans and without talking to me about it he put Lincoln in his crib last friday night when I was at work. But Adam said he did well and slept 6 hours straight. But I think a part of me was sad that he was no longer going to be next to me, so I kept him in our room for a few more nights.

He started a growth spurt 3 days ago where he is up every 3 hours to eat, but with Adam being gone this week and my parents taking him over night I knew I had to transition him so it would make it easier on them (they after all have jobs to do unlike when his Auntie stayed with him...he was up every 45 minutes with her...eek!).

So last night was the night. He went down around 11 or so and I stayed up because honestly I wasn't tired until after his 3 am feeding (nightshift has made my sleeping habits worse) he was up again at 6 and then again at 8:30 until finally getting up around 10.

So overall it went great and he is once again in his crib tonight, with the monitor next to my bed and the sound of crickets in the background (from his sound machine). I did however try something different tonight. Since I'm such a night owl Lincoln seems to be too and although it works for me because I like to stay up late and sleep in, I know when other people watch him they may not appreciate that, so I tried unsuccessfully to put him down at 8.

I fed him around 6 I think and then gave him a bath and he got fussy around 7 so I put him to bed and he took about an hour or so nap before he was screaming wanting to eat at 8:30. So I fed him and he fell back asleep only to wake up again at 10 wanting to play! UGG have I ruined this kid???

I brought him down stairs to blow off some energy while I worked on his baby book. Then around 10:30 I brought him back up stairs to change him, swaddle him and put him to bed. He screamed for about 5 minutes but then he fell back asleep and slept until 11:15.

I just went in and fed him and now he's asleep again and we shall see if he continues his growth spurt or if he will sleep through the night. And I guess we'll try again later to get him to sleep earlier.

Well sweet dreams my baby boy. Know mommy misses you being next to me, but knows that you need to sleep on your own for your sake and for the sake of others who will be watching you.

Lincoln's First Christmas

Lincoln's first Christmas was a good one. We got to spend quality time with everyone we wanted to. The hardest part is that it always seems to go by so quickly.

Christmas eve is always spent at my Grandma Schutz's house. A tradition that since being married I have not wanted to give up and since Adam's family doesn't have any traditions when it comes to Christmas, we've always gone to my grandma's house since for me its about getting to spend time with my whole family...all 40ish of us. All of my aunts uncles and cousins on my dad's side are there and we have dinner, and have a good time together  opening presents and things like that but for me its about the little traditions. Spending time with Lincoln's Godfather for one, eating Ice box cookies, frozen fruit salad (which she neglected this year ::gasp::) and just hanging out with all of my amazing family memebers.

This was Lincoln's first experience with the Schutz side of the family's Christmas ever and it went off with out a hitch (thank goodness, both of his grandparents were there! :) ). Everyone loved him and the two cousins that hadn't met him yet got that opportunity. I truly love all of my family and I love the holidays since that is one of the times when we all get together. My dad's side of the family is lucky enough that most of us are local (northsiders and southsiders), and only one Chicagoian.  We are lucky enough that we get together fairly frequently with Purdue football games and things so it's safe to say we are a close knit family. But there is just something about the holidays that makes our time together so special.

Christmas morning Adam, Lincoln and I woke up a little later than we had wanted, around 9 (Lincoln slept for 8 hours!) and we took our time getting ready and then headed over to my parents house. I loved getting to wake up Christmas morning just the 3 of us and relax and enjoy this special family time.  There is just something about waking up in your own bed on Christmas morning and getting to spend it with the people you love the most in life. I feel so blessed for my little family this year

At my parents house my sister and I opened our Santa gifts. Yes Santa still comes for my sister and I. My mother to this day has not and will not acknowledge that Santa does not exist. So he still comes year after for us.  wonder how we are going to explain this to Lincoln in coming years...such as why Santa comes for mommy and daddy at mimi and papa's house but not at Pop and Grandmas...guess we'll have to think about this one. And yes my mom and dad spoil us. Stacie and I open about 10 gifts each, they are usually dumb things that were seen on TV, last year we got the strap perfects! Then we get one big gift. Adam and mine was a new GRILL!!! I will have a whole separate post on that one!
Here are a few of the highlights

Our first Christmas together

Mimi and Papa and their grandson
After our breakfast of cinnamon rolls and biscuits and gravy we headed home and got ready to go to Adam's brother and fiance's house to celebrate with Adams parents and grandparents.

Adam and I are lucky that his parents are so accommodating when it comes to Christmas. They don't really care when we get together as long as we get together to celebrate. It just so happened with our work schedules they had to come to us this year, or wait until after the new year to celebrate so they chose to come up to us. Andrew's fiance cooked a yummy meal for all of us and we really enjoyed spending time with all of them.

Unfortunately Adams parents and grandparents only stayed up here for the day which I was more than disappointed about. I offered to have them stay longer so they could get to spend time with their grandson but they had things they had to get back to at home. Hopefully we will all be able to get together again soon. I just really hate how far away they live!!! I can't wait for them to move up to Indy!!! In the words of my sister...MOVE UP HERE ALREADY! :)

Hansen Family Christmas

I come from an extremely large family. Both of my parents are the second of 6 kids. I have something close to 30 first cousins and many aunts and uncles. Family get togethers are always a bunch of fun and there is NEVER a dull moment. I am also fortunate enough to have a pretty close relationship and bond with almost all of my cousins, aunts uncles and grandparents. The cousins that are close to my age I talk to on a fairly frequent basis and this has only further increased since having Lincoln. Many of them are already mother's themselves so they are the first ones I go to with questions.

Unfortunately my mom's side of the family is in Northwest Indiana which is about 2-3 hours from here. We don't usually stay the night up there because there isn't always enough room. Especially not now with Lincoln. But we do get to spend several hours together when we do, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Well the sunday after I started work, and the day after the Chafin family Christmas we went up north to celebrate Christmas with my Mom's side of the family. We used to get together on Christmas day every year but this year we thought we'd try something different since extended families are getting bigger and bigger. This was our first crack at it and I have to say it was a success.

It was also the first time some of my cousins were able to meet Lincoln. Unfortunately with the timing of his birth around holidays and things and the drive with several of them was too much to take on to get a chance to meet him, so for some of them it was their first time. I just have to say that I love my family and I love even more how much they love my little man.

There are 3 of us cousins who have children. My cousin Jeanette was the first she had Madison who is almost 5! Then she has twin girls Allison and Aubry who happen to be 1 month younger than Hannah. Hannah is my cousin Marianne's oldest little girl. Marianne had another baby girl 6.5 weeks after Lincoln was born. So thats a grand total of 6 great grandkids with Lincoln being the only boy! Below is the picture with all 6 of them and Baba and Zedo (grandma and grandpa in Slovak, which is what nationality my grandma is.)

Little Payton is just 6.5 weeks younger than Lincoln. I thought it would be fun to see how different their sizes are. Payton was 9lbs 6 oz when she was born and I think Lincoln was only about 12 lbs at this point.
